Thorogood, a brand with a rich heritage dating back to 1892, has a story of enduring quality and innovation. The company was founded by Albert H. Weinbrenner, who, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with his partner, Joseph Peffer, serving the "Jobbing" trades. Over the years, Thorogood has undergone remarkable transformations, adapting to the evolving needs of its customers.

In 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was formed, and in 1916, the company printed its first catalog, boasting more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, and Thorogood became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I.

Thorogood's commitment to safety footwear production began in 1938, and in 1942, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary by converting to all-military footwear for the duration of World War II, producing combat and dress styles. This military footwear also became popular with civilians.

In 1964, Thorogood introduced the Official Boy Scout Boot: The Hike n' Camp, with a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching, which became the company's best-selling boot of all time and is still available in its original design today.

In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, including six employees, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, featuring high-tech occupational safety footwear. Thorogood celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1992 with the theme "A Century of Lasting Quality."

In 2000, Thorogood employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP. In 2001, within three days of the September 11 terror attacks, Thorogood donated 300 pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero for those working in the rubble, followed by another 200 pairs.

Thorogood has continued to evolve, introducing the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots in 2014 and celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2017 with a renewed commitment to upgrading and improving domestic facilities, machines, equipment, manufacturing methods, and computer systems/programs.

In 2022, Thorogood celebrated 130 years as a company, with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI and the launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. As sales continue to increase, Thorogood is expanding with many new styles on the horizon.
