Thorogood, a renowned footwear brand, boasts a rich history dating back to 1892 when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, established a cobblery in Milwaukee, partnering with Joseph Peffer to serve the "Jobbing" trades. In 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was officially formed, and the company's first catalog was printed in 1916, marking a significant milestone. Thorogood's innovative spirit shone through the introduction of the "Job-fitted" concept in 1917, making it a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I.
The company's foray into safety footwear production commenced in 1938, and in 1942, Thorogood celebrated its 50th anniversary by converting its entire operation to military footwear for the duration of World War II, producing both combat and dress styles. This military footwear gained widespread popularity with civilians as well.
In 1943, the company's workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, yet the management and workers maintained an outstanding relationship that continues to this day. The iconic Hike n' Camp boot, featuring a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching, was introduced in 1964 and became the company's best-selling boot, still available in its original design.
In 1988, Thorogood was purchased by a local group, including six employees, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, focusing on high-tech occupational safety footwear. The company celebrated its centennial in 1992 with the theme "A Century of Lasting Quality." In 2000, Thorogood employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan).
Following the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, Thorogood donated 300 pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero within three days, with an additional 200 pairs soon after. In 2014, the company introduced the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots, built on the iconic No. 60 last. Thorogood celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2017, demonstrating a renewed commitment to upgrading and improving its domestic facilities, machines, equipment, manufacturing methods, and computer systems/programs.
In 2022, Thorogood celebrated 130 years as a company, opening a new factory in Merrill, Wisconsin, and launching its first western wear product, the Thorogood Square Toe Wellingtons. Today, the brand continues to gain popularity, with sales increasing as it expands its product offerings.
The Thorogood 834-6385 Men's Crosstrex Polishable Toe/Side Zip – BBP Waterproof Non-Safety Toe Boot is a testament to the brand's commitment to quality and innovation. Featuring a polishable leather/mesh upper, BBP waterproof construction, a removable single-density polyurethane footbed, a composite shank, and a Crosstrex 360 outsole, this boot is designed to tackle any challenge, providing the comfort of an athletic shoe and the grip of a quality uniform boot.
