Thorogood's DURABLE FULL-GRAIN LEATHER BOOTS in the moc toe work boot design are both comfortable and built to withstand demanding jobs. Available in Tobacco (804-4200), Trail Crazyhorse (804-4575), and Midnight Black (804-6201), these American-made boots are crafted by skilled workers in Thorogood's US plants using USA and globally sourced components.
The MAXWEAR WEDGEâ„¢ TRACTION OUTSOLE flexes better than other work boot soles, absorbing impacts and protecting your feet and ankles while working on challenging surfaces. It keeps you stable even on loose gravel, wet, and oily areas, meeting ASTM F3445-21 slip-resistance standards.
STEEL TOE BOOTS FOR MEN shield your feet from on-site impact and compression hazards while remaining light and flexible, making them some of the best safety toe boots for hazardous jobs. They meet ASTM F2413-18 safety toe standards.
These MAXWear Wedge work boots also meet ASTM F2413-18 electrical hazard resistance safety standards, providing EH RESISTANCE. The REMOVABLE ULTIMATE SHOCK ABSORPTION FOOTBED on the Poron Comfort Cushion Insole uses dual-density cushioning with air-permeable open cells to wick away moisture and absorb shock, ensuring maximum comfort.
Thorogood's heritage dates back to 1892 when 27-year-old Albert H. Weinbrenner opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner Joseph Peffer, serving the "Jobbing" trades. The company was officially formed in 1900 and printed its first catalog in 1916, boasting more leather cutting machines than any other in the US.
In 1917, Thorogood introduced the "Job-fitted" concept and became a major contributor of boots to the US Army during World War I. The company took its first steps into safety footwear production in 1938 and converted to all-military footwear during World War II, producing combat and dress styles that also became popular with civilians.
Thorogood celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1942 and its workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union in 1943, maintaining an outstanding relationship with management to this day. The company's best-selling boot, the Hike n' Camp with a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching, was introduced in 1964.
In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group including six employees, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, featuring high-tech occupational safety footwear. Thorogood became employee-owned through an ESOP in 2000 and has since expanded its offerings, including the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted lifestyle boots introduced in 2014.
