Weinbrenner, a company with a rich history dating back to 1892, has a proud legacy of crafting high-quality, durable footwear. Founded by Albert H. Weinbrenner at the age of 27, the company started as a small cobblery in Milwaukee, partnering with Joseph Peffer to serve the "Jobbing" trades. Over the years, Weinbrenner has evolved, becoming a leading manufacturer of safety footwear and expanding its product offerings.
In 1916, the company printed its first catalog, boasting more leather cutting machines than any other in the United States. The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, and Weinbrenner played a significant role in providing boots to the U.S. Army during World War I. The company took its first steps into safety footwear production in 1938, and during World War II, it converted its entire operation to military footwear, producing combat and dress styles that became popular with civilians.
Throughout its history, Weinbrenner has maintained an outstanding relationship with its workers, who organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union in 1943. In 1964, the company introduced the iconic "Hike n' Camp" boot, which became its best-selling model and is still available in its original design today.
In 1988, Weinbrenner was purchased by a local group, including six employees, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, focusing on high-tech occupational safety footwear. In 2000, Weinbrenner employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), and in 2014, the "1892 Heritage" line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots was introduced.
Weinbrenner's commitment to quality and innovation is reflected in the safety features of its products. The boots are designed with a composite safety toe and a unique, flexible textile insole, meeting ASTM F2413 or ASTM F2892 electrical hazard resistance safety standards. The EVA/rubber oil-resisting outsole is engineered to withstand or reduce damage caused by oil. Additionally, the boots are 100% non-metallic, utilizing composite safety toes and non-metallic hardware, ensuring they do not activate security screening devices.
Today, Weinbrenner continues to expand its product offerings, with the recent launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons, in 2022. The company's dedication to upgrading and improving its domestic facilities, machines, equipment, manufacturing methods, and computer systems/programs is a testament to its commitment to providing high-quality, durable footwear to its customers.
As Weinbrenner celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2023, the company's sales continue to increase, and the Thorogood brand is gaining popularity with many new styles on the horizon, solidifying Weinbrenner's position as a leading manufacturer of safety and lifestyle footwear.
