Thorogood's rich heritage dates back to 1892 when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee. The company has a long history of innovation, including the introduction of the "Job-Fitted" concept in 1917 and the production of the first Official Boy Scout Boot, the Hike n' Camp, in 1964.

Over the years, Thorogood has continued to evolve, with the company being purchased by a local group including six employees in 1988 and then becoming employee-owned through an ESOP in 2000. In the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Thorogood donated hundreds of pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero.

Today, Thorogood celebrates 130 years of excellence, with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI and the launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons.
